TheTVObserver: Memorable Moments #3

TheTVObserver’s Memorable Moments Series presents a scene on Scandal which left us amazed and in royal appreciation of Kagiso Modupe’s performance. We call it the greatest performance because a) we never thought he was capable, b) even experienced local actors have not shown us such level of commitment to a scene which demands not just saying the lines, but being the part...and Mangi was the Junkie on this scene, and c) we thought he was a typical confused boy, Mangi not Kagiso.

To get started, we begin with a build up scene in which he looked like he had lost his mind. What made us laugh was when he asked them to “piss of”. Please note this is not our moment but a build up.

Mangi played by Kagiso started out as a trouble teen whose role was primed for cancellation like the on-screen mother. But after a much needed makeover, the flower started to blossom and boy did he grab our attention. It is at this time that we feel we should mention that some actors may seem like useless on-screen additions, but that might be the fault of directors, producers and writers. After all they act, they don’t write the rubbish!

Etv has found a formular for local content and they are matching it up with high quality on-screen presentations. I never thought the day will come. If they keep this up, the whole of SABC1 may just find a new home on e.

The Memorable Moment
The lighting was great, the set - perfect, the music - excellent, the storyline - on point, and the moment when the actor delivered his lines, Hollywood Ringed In Our Ears like the heavens above. TheTVObserver presents a Memorable Moment with Mangi played by Kagiso Modupe, you are going to love this. Hlomla Dandala is doing a great job at Scandal.

Mangi is a personal assistant to CEO Daniel after his failed attempt to become a journalist or is he still a journalist in development? Daniel is his real dad. He is kidnapped shortly after their relationship started to get better. From etv’s website: “Mangi was being moulded to take over his dad's operations at NZH. However, his heroin habit will put that plan on hold.”

This reminds me of The Addiction Project produced by HBO in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The feature-length documentary film ADDICTION is the centerpiece of the Addiction project. Bringing together the nation's leading experts with award- winning filmmakers, it consists of nine separate segments.
