TheTVObserver: HUNG

In what is possibly the most interesting television program name from a network that brought us the shocking but very addictive “Sex In The City”; comes a brand new series which looks to deliver the same level of entertainment, if not more.

When we heard of this show, I nearly choked. Not what you are thinking, we were having lunch. Anyway, I thought to myself HBO has gone crazy and that followed immediately by the words: “I need more information”.

Created by Dmitry Lipkin (creator of 'The Riches') and Colette Burson, HUNG uses dark humor to tell the story of a man fighting to survive personal setbacks that have been compounded by a troubled economy.

The series stars Thomas Jane ('The Punisher,' '*61') as Ray Drecker; Jane Adams ('Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind') as Ray's business partner, Tanya Skagle; Anne Heche ('Men in Trees') as Ray's ex-wife, Jessica Haxon; Eddie Jemison ('Ocean's Thirteen') as Jessica's successful husband Ronnie; Sianoa Smit-McPhee ('As the Bell Rings') as Ray's daughter Darby; and Charlie Saxton ('The Lovely Bones') as Ray's son Damon.

When we discovered that Thomas Jane was the star of this new show titled “HUNG”, cast for the role of Ray. We got very excited (again, not what you may be thinking...lol) since we’ve always been a fan of the actor from the movie Deep Blue Sea.

This could be a challenging role (negatively or positively), in the public domain. Can you imagine the amount of the Jane’s and Thomas’ of this world who will be willing to go the distance to find out if Thomas Jane is really Hung!?

Not to mention the double takes at the gym, and bulge analyzers from curious minds, trying to find the answer to the question – “Thomas are you really hung?”

Thomas Jane’s character Ray, married his cheerleading High School sweetheart and they took off for greener pastures. But after an aborted professional career with the Atlanta Braves, Ray, Jessica and their twins returned to the Detroit suburbs for Ray to take a temporary job teaching history at their alma mater, and coaching the school's varsity basketball team. The stop-gap turned into a career and two years ago, Jessica dumped him for her dermatologist. Ray moved back to his parents' rundown lakeside house with the twins.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and Ray Drecker's situation couldn't be much tougher. The former high school sports legend turned middle-aged high school basketball coach is divorced and struggling to provide for his kids when his already run-down house catches fire. Looking to take on a second job, Ray decides to exploit his best asset in a last-ditch attempt to change his fortunes.

“HUNG” premieres June 28th, 10p.m on HBO. You gotta love cable TV!
